Olen Keogh was born in the year 1327 DR (after Dale Reckoning) to the prestigious Keogh clan – one of the few noble families in the notoriously cutthroat city-state of Luskan. From an early age, the young Olen seemed to inherit his forebears' insatiable hunger for knowledge in its myriad forms.
While most noble children dreamed of glory on the battlefield or mercantile empire, Olen could often be found tucked away in Luskan's vast library archways, poring over tomes and manuscripts detailing the flora, fauna and natural theorems of the broader Sword Coast region. He took immense delight in simply observing the complex, interwoven ecosystems contained even within the city's central courtyards and gardens.
As Olen entered adolescence, his fascination with botany and zoology only deepened. He became something of a peculiar celebrity amongst learned circles for his uncanny perception of nature's "hidden harmonies" – exhibiting a prescient ability to track migratory animal patterns, sense coming meteorological shifts, and discern the most arcane properties of various plants and fungi.
It was on an expedition into the Ironfrost Glaciers at age 16 that Olen experienced a profoundly life-altering vision. Deep within a isolated everfrost cavern, the young savant chanced upon a bizarre arrangement of crystal shards and ancient frescoes depicting the mysterious "Old Ones." In a harrowing trance-like state, Olen was beset by vivid premonitions of a mystical realm suffused within all living things – an interconnected "world within our world" where raw nature and primal consciousness coexisted as one cohesive thread of existence.
From that inflection point, Olen fervently sought tutelage in the druidic ways from the most venerated circle primals and hortic masters across Faerûn's wildernesses. His arduous decades-spanning journey saw him traverse the furled expanse of the High Forest, withstand brutal survival trials amid the Anauroch Desert's eternally shifting dunes, and even study under the reclusive, sentient Oloric fungus-colonies dispersed throughout the Underdark's sprawling myconid caverns.
Olen's dogged persistence allowed him to achieve something virtually unprecedented - unifying the esoteric teachings of over two dozen disparate druidic circles and ecological masters into one cohesive philosophy. He calls this harmonized ideology of nature's hidden synapses and interwoven patterns "the Verdant Web" - an almost spiritual veneration of the biospheres, landraces and wilderness auras composing all realities.
In his 20th,Olen is already recognized as one of the most preeminent and intellectually formidable sages the druidic discipline has mustered in centuries. From his hermitic study-grove nestled along the Rain River's lush, mist-shrouded canopies, he has hosted some of Faerûn's most powerful personages and inquisitive minds alike. All come to glean wisdom and insights from this gentle yet steadfast archdruid on harmonizing with the complex choreographies of the natural world.
Viciously pragmatic rangers have been humbled into realizing their short-sightedness by Olen's millennia-spanning observations of particular flora and fauna's regenerative cycles. Calishite merchant-lords have reconsidered proposed trade routes after the sage foretold upcoming arid seasons. Even many of the Harpers' elusive archmages show the druid-savant humbling deference when he elucidates startling truths of the land's perpetual, codependent renewals.
